El Rayos Authentic Mexican Restaurant is located in downtown Calhoun, Georgia. Like many of the businesses that can be found off of the main street, El Rayos is located in a building that used to be someone's private home. Prior to housing the Mexican restaurant, the building housed Place on Piedmont restaurant.
Before becoming a restaurant, the building was a house where a woman and a young girl lived. According to reports, the little girl was killed after being hit by a car in the street. The woman lived there until she died of natural causes.
Throughout the years, there have been reports of hauntings in the building. It is reported that there are cold spots throughout the building. Many people have ended up locked in the bathroom with the lights turning on and off by themselves. People have reported a feeling of being watched while in the building. Also, people have reported whispering in their ears. The dumbwaiter in the kitchen has been reported to go up and down on its own. Reports have been made by employees and guests.
The ghostly figure of a woman has been seen throughout the building. She is described as wearing a dark dress, white apron, lace up boots, and a bun. She is usually seen with her arms crossed and an angry expression on her face.
There is not a lot of history that is available online, but I would very much be interested in any personal stories of occurrences at the restaurant. In the picture below, if you look closely at the window in the back right, you can see a woman who looks a lot like the ghostly woman described.
